A group of 10 to 12 armed individuals instilled fear in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi-Shankar area on Sunday night, brandishing local weapons and intimidating nearby shopkeepers.

The disturbance prompted locals to issue an emergency alert via mosque loudspeakers, mistakenly assuming a robbery was underway.

The armed group appeared near the Ali Hossain Balok High School around 8:30pm, reportedly intimidating shopkeepers and bystanders.

Alarmed business owners swiftly shut their shops, while residents sought refuge in safer locations.

The gang remained in the area for approximately five to ten minutes before leaving.

As panic spread, mosque authorities broadcasted a warning, alerting residents of an alleged robbery.

Several videos circulating on social media captured the locals calling for police intervention.

Officer-in-Charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, Saiful Islam, stated that the group had arrived from Mohammadpur and assembled outside Ali Hossain School, causing widespread concern.

However, they departed before law enforcement arrived at the scene. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.
