Immediate past Commissioner of Chattogram Metropiltan Police (CMP) Saiful Islam has been ‘shown arrested’ in Chattogram University (CU) student Hridoy Chandra Taruya killing case filed with Chandgaon police in the city.

Police arrested Saiful Islam in the capital today morning and was produced before the 4th Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate court in the afternoon.

The magistrate of the court Md. Mostafa granted 3-days for interrogating him at the jail gate instead of 7-days remand prayer moved by police.

Public Prosecutor of Metropolitan Session Judge Court Advocate Mofizul Haq Bhuiyan confirmed the news. The ex-CMP Commissioner has been implicated in the case filed in connection with murdering of CU student Hridoy Chandra Taruya.

Hridoy, a 3rd year honours student of History Department of CU, is one of the martyrs of July Uprising in Ctg. He hailed from Patuakhali district.

Bullet tore apart his throat when police and armed cadres of ousted fascist Awami League government made reckless firing on a gathering of students and protesters during the July-August student-led anti-discrimination movement at the city’s Bahadderhat under Chandgaon thana on 18 July last year.

Hridoy succumbed to his injuries on 23 July after 5-days struggle for life at DMCH.

A brilliant student Hridoy got GPA-5 grade at both SSC and HSC exams , was only son of poor carpenter Ratan Chandra Taruya and mother Archana Rani of a Andua village under Mirzagonj upazila in Patuakhali district.

Azizul Haq, a friend of Hridoy lodged a case with Chandgaon police for the killing implicating 400-500 persons including 206 persons by name.

Saiful Islam had been Commissioner of CMP during July Uprising and was transferred to Sardah Police Academy in Rajshahi on 21 August last.
