Local sources revealed that Chayan Islam, who was elected MP from Sirajganj-6 on an Awami League ticket, had been in hiding for an extended period in a fourth-floor flat of a six-storey building owned by the late Khairul Islam Milon in the Matir Mosque area of Tepirbari village, Sripur upazila.
Acting on information provided by leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, police surrounded the multi-storey building shortly after 11:30pm.
Subsequently, Chayan Islam was detained from one of the flats and taken to Sripur Police Station.
