Operation Devil Hunt: 82 arrested in Gazipur amid ongoing crackdown

A total of 82 individuals have been detained so far in Gazipur as part of the ongoing security operation, "Operation Devil Hunt".

"Of these, 40 were apprehended from five police stations within the district, while the Gazipur Metropolitan Police arrested 42 individuals from eight police stations under its jurisdiction," said Gazipur Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Md Zaber Sadeq during a press briefing held at 9:30am on Sunday (9 February).

He further stated that the operation, which commenced on Friday, remains active across various areas within the district.

All detainees are reportedly affiliated with the Awami League, according to law enforcement sources.

The arrests were made during overnight raids conducted on Saturday.

The operation involves joint efforts from the Gazipur Metropolitan Police, Bangladesh Army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and other law enforcement agencies.

Breakdown of arrests within the metropolitan area includes:

  • Pubail Police Station: 2 detainees
  • Metro Sadar Police Station: 16 detainees
  • Bason Police Station: 7 detainees
  • Tongi East Police Station: 7 detainees
  • Gacha Police Station: 5 detainees
  • Kona Bari Police Station: 2 detainees
  • Kashimpur Police Station: 3 detainees

Md Zahidul Hasan, additional commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police said the operation has been ongoing across different police stations for the past two days and will continue in the coming days.
