Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has detained prominent actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon on allegations of conspiring against the state.
DB Chief Rezaul Karim Mallik confirmed the arrest, stating that Shaon was detained from her residence in Dhanmondi.
Further details regarding the nature of the allegations or the ongoing investigation have yet to be disclosed.
Shaon began her career as a child artiste in 1988, debuting in the drama Swadhinota Amar Swadhinota, which aired on BTV. She gained widespread recognition through her collaborations with celebrated author and director Humayun Ahmed, starting with the drama Jononee in 1991. Shaon later appeared in Ahmed's popular series, including Nokkhotrer Raat and Aaj Robibar.
In 1999, she made her silver screen debut in Srabon Megher Din, directed by Humayun Ahmed. She continued her acting career with notable performances in films such as Dui Duari and Chandrokatha.
Shaon was married to Humayun Ahmed from 2004 until his passing in 2012. She also won the National Film Award in the Best Female Playback Singer category for her performance in the film Krishnopokkho.
