President Mohammed Shahabuddin has called upon the ambassadors and high commissioners of Laos, Zambia, Kenya, and Cyprus to enhance trade relations and investment in Bangladesh, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, ready-made garments, frozen foods, ceramics, and jute products.

The president made this appeal on Wednesday (29 January) during a meeting with the newly appointed non-resident ambassador of Laos and the non-resident high commissioners of Zambia, Kenya, and Cyprus.

Welcoming the diplomats, he reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations with all nations, underscoring the country’s steadfast dedication to global peace and cooperation. He also highlighted the commendable role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in United Nations peacekeeping missions worldwide.

Emphasising Bangladesh’s favourable business and investment climate, the president invited investors from Kenya, Cyprus, Zambia, and Laos to explore opportunities in various sectors. He also stressed the importance of exchanging bilateral governmental and business delegations to further solidify trade and investment ties.

Addressing the challenges posed by climate change, the president noted that Bangladesh and other developing nations are facing severe repercussions. He called for collaborative initiatives in renewable energy and green technology to counteract climate change and ensure sustainable development.

The visiting diplomats expressed their commitment to enhancing trade and investment relations while fostering greater connectivity between their respective nations and Bangladesh. They also sought the president’s support in carrying out their diplomatic responsibilities.
