The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed four cases against 19 individuals, including Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former military adviser to a former prime minister, for allegedly embezzling Tk 812 crore from three airport development projects.
During a briefing at the ACC headquarters, ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain disclosed details of the cases, which involve the misappropriation of funds earmarked for the development of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Sylhet Osmani International Airport, and Cox’s Bazar Airport.
Other high-profile accused include former secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohibul Haque, former Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal (Retd) M Mafidur Rahman, and former Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Janendranath Sarkar.
Md Akhter Hossain stated, “The accused individuals conspired to misappropriate government funds allocated for these critical airport development projects, causing significant financial loss to the nation.”
