The immigration authorities in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur, conducted a significant operation in Bukit Bintang, detaining 176 foreign nationals, including 71 Bangladeshis, on charges of overstaying their permitted duration and failing to possess valid travel documents.

Wan Saupi Wan Yusof, the director of Kuala Lumpur Immigration, stated that investigations are ongoing regarding the status of the detainees, which include individuals from Myanmar, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Egypt, and Sudan, reports Free Malaysia Today.

The operation was reportedly launched following complaints from the public.

After their detention, the apprehended individuals were taken to the headquarters of Kuala Lumpur Immigration for further processing.

The crackdown reflects Malaysia's ongoing efforts to address concerns related to undocumented migrants and those exceeding their authorised stay.
