The management of Daily Bhorer Kagoj announced the closure of the newspaper's main office, following a notice circulated to staff on Monday (20 January).
Multiple senior employees of the publication have since confirmed the closure.
A responsible source indicated that the shutdown of the main office signals a likely halt in the newspaper's publication, though this remains to be officially verified.
The closure follows several days of unrest, with staff members voicing demands for overdue payments in accordance with the Eighth Wage Board’s stipulations.
Protests escalated on Sunday (19 January), when a group of journalists, joined by leaders from the journalist union and external supporters, gathered in front of the main office.
This assembly appeared to prompt the management to issue the closure notice.
Staff had been seeking the settlement of arrears dating back to their dates of appointment, along with full compensation as per the current wage board structure.
The situation has left many in the industry concerned, as the longstanding publication, established as a prominent voice in the country’s media landscape, faces a crisis that may affect its ability to continue operations.
