Traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway returned to normal after a seven-hour gridlock in the Gazaria section caused by dense fog and a road accident.

The congestion, which stretched over a 13-kilometer area near the Meghna-Gumti Bridge, severely disrupted vehicular movement.

The incident began around 7:30 am on Friday (10 January) when a covered van lost control and overturned near Gauripur on the Dhaka-bound side of the highway. Delays in removing the overturned vehicle compounded the disruption.

Despite eventually clearing the van, traffic flow struggled to normalise due to the high volume of vehicles and instances of motorists driving against traffic.

Humayun Kabir, the in-charge of Bhaberchar highway police outpost, confirmed that traffic movement resumed smoothly from 3:00 pm.

The delay left passengers increasingly frustrated.
