Light rain along with temporary partly cloudy skies are likely to prevail nationwide with dry weather conditions across the country, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

"The extension of the sub-continental high-pressure belt is currently situated over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Meanwhile, the season's normal low-pressure zone persists over the southern Bay of Bengal, with its extension stretching into the northern Bay of Bengal," the bMD said in its latest weather update on Tuesday (17 December).

Night-time temperatures may experience a slight drop, while daytime temperatures could see a minor increase, it added.

A mild cold spell is currently sweeping over Panchagarh and Chuadanga districts, and this condition is expected to continue.

Additionally, light to moderate fog may form in parts of the country from midnight until morning.

The forecast further predicts that from Saturday onwards, rainfall may occur intermittently over the span of two to three days, following which temperatures across the country are likely to decline.

Intensity of winter could increase from January, BMD said.

The country, particularly in the northern districts of Panchagarh and Chuadanga, remains under the grip of mild cold weather, signalling the gradual onset of the harsher winter season.
