Dhaka awoke on Sunday (2 February) to an impenetrable veil of dense fog, which lingered well into the morning, reducing visibility and forcing vehicles to navigate with headlights on.

The sun remained elusive until at least 9 am, shrouding the city in a ghostly greyness.

While the heavy fog created an eerie ambience, the overall winter chill was noticeably less severe, owing to a rise in temperatures across most parts of the country except Rangpur division.

Both daytime and nighttime temperatures in Dhaka have climbed in recent days, easing the usual bite of winter.

On Saturday, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 9.8°C in Tetulia, while Dhaka registered a comparatively mild 20.4°C.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, dense fog may persist in some regions until noon, potentially disrupting air travel, inland river transport, and road communication.

It stated that temperatures are expected to remain steady for the next two days, with a possible decline from Monday or Tuesday, heralding the return of a colder spell.
