The Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) AKM Shahidur Rahman has admitted to the existence of "Aynaghar" (House of Mirror) - a secret torture and holding cell, within the elite force.

He made the statement on Thursday (12 December) during a press conference held at the RAB Media Centre in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.

Over the years, allegations regarding the presence of more than a hundred such rooms within RAB have been raised, particularly during the Awami League’s tenure.

When asked if these facilities still exist, the RAB DG confirmed, "Mirror rooms were and still are present within RAB. The Commission on Enforced Disappearances is investigating these matters and has instructed that they remain exactly as they were for the purposes of inquiry."

The High Court is currently hearing a writ petition concerning allegations of shootings conducted via helicopters during student and public protests.

Additionally, a criminal case has been filed, and the International Crimes Tribunal is also conducting its own investigation. The RAB DG expressed confidence that the truth would emerge through these ongoing probes.

On the topic of disbanding RAB, the DG remarked, "As long as I serve in RAB, I will perform my duties with utmost dedication. Any decision regarding the dissolution of the force lies solely with the government, and we will abide by their directives without question."
