With the support of the public, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) effectively tackled the law and order situation, said RAB Director General AKM Shahidul Rahman.

"Among the challenges faced were the Ansar mutiny, unrest in the garment sector, and attempts by unscrupulous officials in the power sector to create disorder, all of which were addressed by RAB's intervention. Since its establishment, RAB has seized narcotics valued at over Tk6,000 crore," he said during a press briefing and interactive session with journalists at the RAB Media Centre in Dhaka's Kawran Bazar on Thursday (12 December).

During the briefing, Shahidul Rahman reflected on his tenure, which began on 8 August, a period marked by the absence of a functioning government.

Rahman also addressed past controversies, particularly the high-profile incident in Narayanganj involving seven killings carried out by RAB personnel.

He stated, "We have sought forgiveness and expressed our regrets to the families of those who were killed or disappeared. Without their forgiveness, there is no path to absolution."

the RAB chief further noted that the government has established a commission to investigate enforced disappearances. "The commission is conducting investigations, and those found guilty will face justice," he assured.
