The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has reinforced its security operations to curb a surge in organised criminal activities, including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and drug trafficking, particularly in Mohammadpur, Adabor, and other areas across the country.

Following an inspection of RAB patrols and checkpoints in the capital’s Jatrabari-Matuail area at 2am on Sunday (23 February), RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman stated that certain criminal groups and vested interests are attempting to disrupt law and order through targeted attacks and sabotage.

These groups have been engaging in robberies, mugging, and extortion, instilling fear among the public, he added.

RAB, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, has launched extensive operations across various regions to dismantle these criminal networks.

The force has intensified its patrolling efforts, particularly in high-risk areas, with round-the-clock surveillance and additional security deployments to prevent further incidents.

RAB chief further noted that each RAB battalion is conducting robust patrolling within its jurisdiction, ensuring uninterrupted monitoring of security conditions across the country through dedicated control rooms working in tandem with other law enforcement agencies.

Additionally, RAB has successfully arrested several key figures linked to notorious criminal syndicates.

Among them are Anwar, alias "Shooter Anwar" or "Kobji Kata Anwar", the leader of Mohammadpur’s infamous gang known for severing victims' wrists; Bunia Sohel, a top criminal from Geneva Camp; and Selim Ashrafi, alias "Chuwa Selim", a major drug trafficker operating from the same area.

Their capture marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown against organised crime.
