Police have arrested three people for their alleged involvement with an incident of gang-raping a student of Pabna Science and Technology University (PSTU).
Officer in-Charge (operation) Sanjay Kumar Saha of Pabna Sadar Police Station said the accused were arrested from different areas of the city Tuesday night.
The incident occurred Monday night, said a release of the Police Headquarters (PHQ).
The arrestees are identified as Mehdi Masud (26), son of Abdul Jalil of Kalachandpara area of Pabna city, Mahmudul Hasan Sajid (23), son of Motaleb Hossain of Chak Ramchandrapur and Harun-Or-Rashid (27), son of Jamir Uddin of Oshalgariya Forest Para area.
Being informed from the victim leaders of Bangladesh Police Women's Welfare Association (PUNAK) took the matter in their notice and requested local police to provide legal support to her.
The PHQ release said the victim’s ex-boyfriend Mehdi Hasan took her to the forest area of Merrill Bypass in the city on the pretext of having tea. From there they took the student to an isolated place nearby and violated her.
Victim's mother filed a case with the Pabna Sadar police station in this connection. After producing them to the court the arrest persons were sent to jail, PHQ press release said.
