Trade and immigration activities at Bhomra Land Port in Satkhira have come to a halt due to a blockade on the main road of India’s Ghojadanga Land Port.

The blockade, organised on Tuesday (10 December), was called by Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari, demanding a cessation of trade between the two countries over alleged persecution of minorities in Bangladesh.

According to Bhomra Land Port sources, an average of 250 trucks carrying goods are involved in daily import-export activities through the port. Currently, imports consist mainly of stones, rice, and onions, while smaller quantities of juice, crude oil, and garments are being exported.

Immigration activities have also been disrupted, leaving passengers traveling to India stranded.

Abed Ali, a traveler from Patkelghata, expressed his frustration, "I had no idea about the blockade at Ghojadanga. Upon arriving at Bhomra, I found the immigration office closed. Now I have no choice but to return home."

Ahidul Islam, President of the Bhomra Land Port Importers and Exporters Association, mentioned that the blockade is expected to be lifted by the evening. "We are hopeful that import-export activities will resume once the blockade is over," he said.
