Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, senior secretary of the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has tendered his resignation.
Sources confirmed that the resignation letter was submitted to the Ministry of Public Administration on Monday (9 December).
He was appointed to the position on a contractual basis on 18 August.
Later, he was also entrusted with the responsibilities of the senior secretary of the Security Services Division of the same ministry.
Following the administrative changes on 5 August, Dr Momen emerged as one of the prominent top officials.
He was specifically brought in to lead the Public Security Division.
Other notable figures similarly positioned include Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraj Uddin Mia, and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Mokhlesur Rahman.
Sources within the ministry revealed that Dr Momen is poised to become the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
A government-formed search committee has reportedly finalised its recommendations, with Dr Momen as the top choice. However, to be eligible for the chairmanship, a candidate must be a retired government officer with at least 20 years of experience in various sectors of public administration.
Insiders also disclosed that former Secretary AKM Abdul Awal Majumder was a strong contender for the ACC Chairman role. However, the final decision appears to favour Dr Momen.
This anticipated appointment signifies the importance placed on Dr Momen's extensive experience and his role in reshaping the administrative landscape during critical times.
