The newly appointed chief election commissioner (CEC) and four other election commissioners(ECs) will take oath today.
"The oath taking ceremony of the newly appointed chief election commissioner and other election commissioners will be held at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge at 1.30pm tomorrow [Sunday]", said M Shafiqul Islam, public relations officer of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court here.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will administer the oath, he added.
Earlier on 21 November, President Mohammed Shahabuddin appointed former secretary AMM Nasir Uddin as the new CEC and four others as election commissioners under section 118 (1) of the constitution.
The other four ECs are: former secretary M Anwarul Islam Sarker, retired district and sessions Judge Abdur Rahman Masud, retired joint secretary Begum Tahmida Ahmad and Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Sanaullah.
The Cabinet Division on Thursday issued separate gazette notifications to this end.
The new EC has been constituted on the basis of the recommendation of the six-member search committee.
The government formed the search committee led by Appellate Division Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury on October 29 in accordance with the Clause-3 of "The Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act, 2022".
The search committee recommended the names of qualified individuals for the positions of the CEC and other commissioners.
