The interim government has formed a Health Sector Reform Commission, chaired by Professor AK Azad Khan, to propose reforms aimed at making healthcare more accessible and universal

The interim government has constituted a Health Sector Reform Commission with Professor AK Azad Khan, president of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association (BADAS), serving as its chair.

This commission has been tasked with proposing essential reforms to make healthcare services more accessible and universal, and its scope of work has been defined accordingly.

Following the directives of the chief adviser, the Cabinet Division has stated that a gazette notification for the formation of this commission may be issued.

The members of the Health Sector Reform Commission include Professor Dr Mohammad Zakir Hossain of the Department of Public Health and Health Informatics at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Professor Liaquat Ali, Chairman of Pathikrit Foundation, Professor Dr Sayeba Akhter, a gynaecologist, Professor Dr Nayla Zaman Khan of the Department of Paediatric Neurology, former Secretary ML Reza, former regional advisor of the World Health Organization, Professor Dr Mozaherul Haque, Dr Azharul Islam from icddr,B, Professor Dr Syed Mohammad Akram Hossain of the Square Cancer Centre at Square Hospital, Professor Dr Syed Atiqul Haque of Green Life Centre for Rheumatic Care and Research, Dr Ahmed Ehsanur Rahman, a scientist in maternal and child health at icddr,B, and Umayer Afif, a fifth-year student at Dhaka Medical College.

The terms of reference for the Health Sector Reform Commission stipulate that it will commence operations immediately and, after considering all relevant opinions, will submit its report to the Chief Adviser within 90 days.
