The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns by one month, moving the new deadline to 31 December 2024.

This extension applies to both online e-returns and physical paper submissions, and there will be no penalties for submissions made within this period.

Under the Income Tax Act, 2023, the original deadline for filing tax returns for all taxpayers, except companies, was 30 November for the 2024-2025 tax year. However, the NBR has issued a special order for government employees in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Narayanganj, and Gazipur city corporations to submit their returns online.

Additionally, officials from all scheduled banks, mobile telecom service providers, and multinational companies across the country are required to submit their returns online, read the statement.

As of now, 375,000 taxpayers have filed e-returns online. The NBR has expressed its hope that this extended period will allow for a smoother and hassle-free return filing experience for all taxpayers.
