Five more people died from dengue in the last 24 hours, bringing the year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease across the country to 342, reported the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday morning.

Among the recent fatalities, three were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while two occurred in Chattogram Division outside the city corporation areas.

In the same period, 466 new dengue patients were hospitalised. Of these, 145 were admitted to hospitals under Dhaka North City Corporation, and 97 were admitted in Dhaka South City Corporation. Currently, a total of 4,227 dengue patients are receiving treatment in various hospitals across the country.

Since the beginning of the year, Bangladesh has recorded 69,922 dengue cases. Last year was the deadliest on record, with 1,705 dengue-related deaths. The DGHS reported 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries in 2023.
