The interim government has established a new structure for the Planning Commission, appointing the chief adviser as chairperson.
This development was formalised in a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday (4 November).
According to the notice, the newly formed commission, now titled the "Bangladesh Planning Commission", places the adviser to the Ministry of Planning in the role of vice chairperson, while existing members of the Planning Commission will serve as members of the new entity.
Secretary of the Planning Division has been appointed as member-secretary.
The commission’s purview includes comprehensive assessments of the national economic situation, the finalisation of draft proposals for the Annual Development Programme (ADP) and the Revised Annual Development Programme (RADP) for submission to the National Economic Council (NEC), and the issuance of directives for reviewing and updating short, medium, and long-term plans for NEC presentation.
Additionally, the commission will oversee critical matters related to national plan implementation and aim to resolve inter-ministerial differences concerning significant strategic issues in the national planning framework.
