The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants for 46 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, in connection with allegations of genocide and crimes against humanity committed in July and August.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam confirmed that the arrest warrants have been sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
On Wednesday, 23 October, the chief prosecutor shared the news of the tribunal’s decision.
It is anticipated that judicial proceedings will commence in the tribunal's main building by 3 November, following the completion of ongoing renovations.
On 17 October, the tribunal, chaired by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumdar and including Justices Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury, issued separate arrest warrants in the cases concerning the alleged atrocities.
The 46 individuals facing arrest include Sheikh Rehana, sister of Sheikh Hasina, as well as several former cabinet members and officials.
Among them are Mohammad A. Arafat, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Dipu Moni, AKM Mozammel Haque, Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former ministers Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Sheikh Selim, Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, and Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash.
Additionally, former Inspector General of Police Abdullah Mamun, DB Harun, former police officers Biplob Kumar Sarkar, Proloy Kumar Jowardar, former DMP Habibur Rahman, former RAB DG Harun-ur-Rashid, former military officer Ziaul Ahsan, Sheikh Hasina's former advisor Tariq Siddiqui, Justice Manik, Dr Zafar Iqbal, and former police officer Monirul Islam are among those implicated.
The tribunal's decision follows Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam's application for arrest warrants against these 46 individuals, based on the allegations of atrocities during the aforementioned period.
