Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that 252 sub-inspectors (SIs) had been discharged from service for disciplinary violations, not due to any political affiliations.

Responding to journalists’ questions at the secretariat, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury emphasised that the removal of these officers was solely due to breaches of discipline.

"The specifics of the misconduct can be better addressed by the Sarada Police Academy, but various kinds of violations can occur. This is not an issue of political identity. A new circular has been issued, and recruitment will be conducted swiftly," he stated while speaking to media on Tuesday (22 October).

Regarding concerns about the nature of the infractions, Lt. Gen. Chowdhury remained vague, only mentioning that the Sarada Police Academy would provide detailed information on the disciplinary breaches committed.

He also highlighted the need for caution in tracing political identities of instigators in any movement, adding, "We must ensure that top criminals released on bail do not return to crime. Discussions have also been held on the recovery of illegal firearms, with a significant amount already seized."

Furthermore, he recommended holding gatherings and rallies at Suhrawardy Udyan instead of Shahbagh, taking into account the traffic congestion in Dhaka.

252 trainee sub-inspectors, out of a total of 823 undergoing training at the Rajshahi Sarada Police Academy, were discharged due to disciplinary violations. The Additional DIG (Media), Masudur Rahman, confirmed this information on Tuesday (22 October).

He further explained that the dismissal process for these 252 individuals, who were involved in breaches of discipline during their training, is ongoing, with letters of discharge currently being issued. Moreover, these officers have been placed on mandatory leave since 17 October 2024.
