The High Court (HC) has ordered Grameen Telecom Trust Chairman Dr Muhammad Yunus to deposit Tk50 crore to the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on behalf of the company, and file an appeal against a income tax claim.
The verdict was published after Justice Mohammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Sardar M Rashed Jahangir signed it on Thursday (29 February).
On 12 February, the HC directed Muhammad Yunus's Grameen Telecom Trust to file an income tax appeal for the tax year 2011 to 2013 by depositing Tk50 crore.
Earlier, on 28 January, Dr Yunus and three other Grameen Telecom officials appeared in the court and filed a petition against the verdict in labour law violation case.
The HC later declared this order rejecting the petition.
On 1 January, the Dhaka Third Labour Court sentenced the four to six months' of imprisonment, with a fine of Tk25,000 each, in the case.
The court also granted them conditional bail on the same day.
On 9 September, 2021, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) filed the case against Dr Yunus and three others alleging that they violated the labour law.
The court on 6 June last year framed charges against Yunus and three others in the case.
