Stop border killing, Teesta deal to act catalyst in Dhaka-Delhi ties: FS

Newly appointed foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin today said key issues like stopping border killings and resolution of the Teesta water-sharing agreement will act as catalyst for a forward looking Bangladesh-India relationship .
 
He made the remark while Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma met him at the foreign ministry here, a foreign ministry press release said .
 
During the meeting, Foreign Secretary mentioned that Bangladesh witnessed a second liberation recently through a mass uprising spearheaded by valiant students in collaboration with the mass people.
 
He thanked the Indian government and Indian Prime Minister for his good wishes extended to the Chief Adviser.
 
He also thanked the Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar for his message of felicitation to the Adviser of Foreign Affairs on his assumption of new responsibilities.
 
Foreign Secretary mentioned that India is the closest neighbour of Bangladesh. Bangladesh looks forward to taking forward the relationship to a people-centric approach.
 
He also discussed the flood situation in Bangladesh.
 
On regional cooperation, Foreign Secretary stressed meaningful regional cooperation under SAARC and BIMSTEC.
 
Foreign Secretary pointed out that Bangladesh expects cooperation from India on the issue of early repatriation of Rohingyas to their homeland, Myanmar.
 
The Indian High Commissioner congratulated the Foreign Secretary on assuming his new responsibilities.
 
He expressed the willingness of the Indian government to work with the interim government of Bangladesh in the coming days.
