Prabir Mitra, the actor revered as the Nawab of Dhaka cinema, has passed away at the age of 81 after battling health complications.

The legendary actor of Dhaka cinema, Prabir Mitra, known as the Nawab of the silver screen, has passed away.

The 81-year-old actor died at a private hospital in the capital on Sunday (5 January) at around 10:15pm while undergoing treatment.

The news was confirmed by fellow actor Misha Sawdagor, who announced Mitra's passing on social media, stating, "Prabir Mitra is no more. He has just passed away. May the Creator forgive him."

Earlier, the actor's son, Mithun Mitra, had informed that his father was in a critical condition due to age-related complications. Prabir Mitra was admitted to the hospital on 22 December, where tests revealed lung issues, leading to his transfer to the ICU.

Born on 18 August 1943 in Chandina, Cumilla, Prabir Mitra's full name was Prabir Kumar Mitra. He grew up in Old Dhaka and was involved in theatrical performances from his school days, notably acting in Rabindranath Tagore's play "Dak Ghar."

Prabir Mitra made his film debut in 1969 with the late H Akbar’s "Jolchobi." His performance in "Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo" earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1982, and he was later honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.

Throughout his illustrious career, Prabir Mitra starred in over 400 films, including notable works such as "Titas Ekti Nadir Naam," "Jibon Trishna," "Seyana," "Jaliyat," "Fariyad," "Rakta Shapath," "Charitraheen," "Joy Parajoy," "Angar," "Mintu Amar Naam," "Fakir Majnu Shah," "Madhumita," "Ashanta Dheu," "Aloankar," "Anurag," "Pratigna," "Tarulata," "Gayer Chele," and "Putrabadhu."

In 1983, Prabir Mitra won his first National Film Award for his performance in "Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo."
