Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has reaffirmed China’s commitment to working in close concert with Bangladesh to translate shared understandings into practical outcomes that bring tangible benefits to the peoples of both nations and foster greater collective prosperity.
Speaking at a seminar held on 13 April at North South University, the envoy described Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’ recent visit to China as a “milestone” in the history of Sino-Bangladeshi relations.
He praised the visit as both “symbolic and substantive,” underscoring China’s readiness to strengthen cooperation across a range of sectors beyond politics—including education, healthcare, and people-to-people engagement.
“This visit reaffirms that our relationship is not shaped by changes in government, but by the enduring solidarity between our peoples,” Yao remarked, alluding to the broader global shifts impacting bilateral diplomacy.
The academic seminar, titled “Reassessing Sino-Bangla Relations: Chief Adviser’s Landmark Visit,” drew participation from diplomatic representatives, scholars from Bangladeshi and Chinese think tanks, and members of international organisations.
National Security Adviser and High Representative for the Rohingya Issue Khalilur Rahman attended as chief guest.
Dr Rahman expressed gratitude for China’s efforts in facilitating the visit, noting the widespread acclaim it garnered across Bangladesh.
He confirmed that the interim government intends to take concrete steps to implement the outcomes of the visit, with the goal of leaving a lasting legacy as the two nations mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Vice Chancellor of North South University, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, also spoke at the event, alongside other dignitaries.
Speakers at the seminar described the chief adviser’s mission to China as a productive, solution-driven engagement that yielded valuable insights into navigating Bangladesh’s current economic challenges. They noted the visit had injected fresh momentum into the country's pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals and deepened the scope of the strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.
