A Dhaka court on Sunday (13 April) issued arrest warrants for former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s two daughters, Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq, in connection with three corruption cases concerning irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachal residential project.
The warrants were issued following an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into alleged graft in the land allotment process within Purbachal, a flagship urban expansion scheme situated on the northeastern outskirts of the capital.
The ACC claims that the accused were unlawfully allotted multiple plots through abuse of power and manipulation of official procedures, causing significant loss to the state exchequer.
Further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.
