A festive spirit has taken over the Dhaka University campus as celebrations commence to welcome Bengali New Year 1432. The much-anticipated "Borsoboron Anondo Shobhajatra" themed “Harmony in the New Year, End to Fascism,” set off on Monday (14 April) at 9am from the Faculty of Fine Art.
A visit to the scene revealed Charukala adorned in vivid decorations.
From early morning, artists and organisers were seen preparing with great enthusiasm.
Oversized placards and artistic installations were lined up for the parade, featuring motifs such as hilsa fish, elephants, horses, tigers, watermelons, and a striking representation carrying the message “Water is a necessity.”
The air was thick with festivity, mirrored in the colourful attire of participants.
People from all walks of life took part in the parade dressed in traditional garb—farmers with straw hats, and youths clad in red-and-white saris and panjabis—adding to the jubilant atmosphere. Many were seen capturing moments with loved ones, while children radiated uncontainable joy.
The procession began in front of Charukala, looping through Shahbagh junction, TSC, the Central Shaheed Minar, Physical Education Centre, and Doel Square, before circling back via the road in front of Bangla Academy to its starting point.
Entry to the university for participants is permitted only through Nilkhet and Palashi intersections during the parade.
