Mario Vargas Llosa, the towering figure of Latin American literature and Nobel laureate, died on 13 April in Lima at the age of 89.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce that our father, Mario Vargas Llosa, passed away peacefully in Lima today, surrounded by his family,” read a statement signed by his children Álvaro, Gonzalo and Morgana.
The message was posted by Álvaro Vargas Llosa on social media platform X.
The family confirmed that no public ceremony will be held and requested privacy during this time.
