A Dhaka court has sentenced Evaly’s managing director Mohammad Rassel and chairperson Shamima Nasrin to three years’ rigorous imprisonment each in a fraud case involving their controversial e-commerce platform.
Alongside the prison term, both have been fined Tk5,000 each.
In default of payment, they will face an additional six months’ simple imprisonment.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Minhajul Rahman delivered the verdict on Sunday (6 April).
Plaintiff’s counsel Sakibul Islam confirmed the development to Dhaka Post, stating that both convicts are currently absconding.
The court has issued warrants for their arrest along with the sentencing order.
