Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in several regions of Bangladesh, including the southern and eastern parts of the country, with more than fifty villages marking the occasion in unison with Saudi Arabia and the Middle East on Sunday (30 March).
These celebrations, a continuation of a long-held tradition, featured various festivities, with tight security ensuring peaceful observances.
In Chittagong, over fifty villages across the districts of Satkania, Lohagara, Banshkhali, Patiya, Anwara, Boalkhali, Karnaphuli, and Hathazari celebrated Eid.
The followers of Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in Satkania have been observing fasting and Eid according to Saudi timings for many years, and this tradition continued with approximately 50,000 people attending Eid prayers.
In Noakhali, residents of Lakshminarayanpur, Harinarayanpur, Basantabag, and Fazilpur in the districts of Sadar, Kabirhat, and Begumganj followed the same practice.
These villages have been marking Eid a day earlier for nearly a century, a tradition maintained by the adherents of the Qadri order.
In Satkhira, 20 villages observed Eid in line with Saudi Arabia’s schedule, with prayers held at 8am at the Vadrukhali Ahle Sunnat Al-Jamaat Jame Masjid in the district. Maulana Mahbubur Rahman led the congregation.
Chandpur also saw Eid prayers in nearly fifty villages, including in Haziganj, where prayers were held at Sadr Darbar Sharif under the leadership of Pirzada Maulana Mufti Zakaria Chowdhury.
In Jhenaidah, a prayer service was held at 8am in Horinakundu Upazila, led by Maulana Rezaul Islam.
For 24 years, the local Muslims have been observing Eid on the same day as Saudi Arabia.
In Patuakhali, around 30,000 people in 35 villages, including the village of Badarpur, celebrated Eid according to Saudi timings.
The main prayer at Badarpur Darbar Sharif was led by Syed Arif Billah Rabbani.
In Jamalpur, 18 villages celebrated Eid, including in Sarishabari, Melandha, and Madarganj, where Eid prayers were held in various mosques.
In Lakshmipur, villages in Ramganj and Raipur also followed Saudi Arabia’s Eid schedule. The main prayers took place at 7:30am at Khanqah Madania Kasemiya Madrasa in Ramganj.
These special prayers were conducted in the morning, with worshippers offering prayers for peace and prosperity for the Muslim Ummah.
Local police forces were deployed in all areas to maintain order, ensuring that the prayers were carried out without any disruptions.
