Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday assured that there is no security threat or conspiracy in the capital, despite its largely empty state due to the Eid holidays.
"By the grace of Almighty Allah, there is no threat," he told journalists when asked about concerns over potential disruptions in the deserted city. His remarks came while inspecting the Gabtoli Bus Terminal in Dhaka.
Amid worries about possible incidents during the extended holiday, the adviser reassured that law enforcement agencies are actively ensuring public safety.
He praised the government's people-centric measures, stating that travelers are experiencing a smooth and hassle-free journey home for Eid. He emphasized that efforts are ongoing to guarantee safe travel and a secure return to Dhaka after the holidays.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented extensive security measures, with police, armed forces, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Ansar, coast guard, and fire service personnel working continuously to maintain law and order.
Jahangir Alam commended their dedication and assured that steps have been taken to prevent crimes such as theft, robbery, and snatching during the holiday period.
"If any conspiracy arises, we will tackle it with the support of the people. When the public stands together, no conspiracy can succeed," he stated.
During his visit, he also instructed traffic authorities to keep major bus terminals and city entry and exit points free from congestion. Additionally, he directed law enforcement agencies to take immediate action against any complaints of transport operators overcharging passengers.
