Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reiterated that the upcoming national election will be held between December this year and June next year.

In a national address on Tuesday (25 March), Dr. Yunus stated, “I have mentioned this before, and I am saying it again: the election will take place between December of this year and June of the following year.”

Dr. Yunus expressed his vision for the election, stating, “The upcoming election will be the most free, fair, and credible in the history of Bangladesh.” He assured that the Election Commission has initiated all necessary preparations to organise the polls effectively.

He also expressed hope that political parties would participate in the election with great enthusiasm and determination.

Regarding preparations for the election, the Chief Adviser highlighted that letters have been sent to 38 political parties, along with 166 recommendations and comprehensive reports from six reform commissions. He explained that efforts are underway to achieve consensus through the Unity Commission by collecting feedback from all political parties.

“The commission aims to identify issues where all political parties agree and prepare a list based on their consensus. This list will be known as the July Charter,” Dr. Yunus explained.

He emphasised that transparency in the entire process is a key responsibility of the interim government, adding, “We are committed to organising the election after presenting the process transparently to the nation.”

Comprehensive Unity Frustrates Defeated Forces

Dr Yunus has stated that the defeated Awami League is exasperated by the comprehensive unity formed among all political parties and social organisations following the July uprising.

Dr. Yunus remarked, "Our comprehensive unity has frustrated the defeated forces. They want to break this unity. Their innovative strategies are so subtle that you won’t even notice when you become a puppet in their game."

He urged the public to remain vigilant, emphasizing that the conspiracy of ousted forces must be thwarted through collective awareness and unity.

Dr. Yunus warned that these forces are spreading false information and rumors in sophisticated ways to destabilise the country, adding, "Fake narratives are being propagated by combining unrelated images, manipulating incidents, and misrepresenting foreign events as domestic occurrences on social media. As the elections approach, such tactics will become even more alarming."

Dr. Yunus also mentioned the ongoing progress of the July uprising, saying, "The first phase of the July uprising has been successfully completed, marking the beginning of the second phase. Remember, we are in a state of war. Rumors are the biggest weapon of the defeated forces against the July uprising. Trace the source of any rumor and never disregard it. Many experienced tacticians and limitless resources are behind this effort to derail the uprising, but we will not let them succeed."
