DMP arrests 179 in 24 hrs special drive across Dhaka

Among those detained were three robbers, eight muggers, two extortionists, ten thieves, 27 drug peddlers, and 43 individuals with outstanding warrants

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 179 individuals during special operations conducted across the capital in 24 hours ending at midnight on Tuesday.

The arrests were made in connection with various crimes, and 64 cases were filed during this time, according to Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of the DMP.

Among those detained were three robbers, eight muggers, two extortionists, ten thieves, 27 drug peddlers, and 43 individuals with outstanding warrants.

Law enforcement officers also seized two knives, two machetes, one sharp weapon, two mobile phones, 1,613 Yaba tablets, two packets of heroin, 2.99 kg of hemp, one vehicle, one auto-rickshaw, and Tk 11,700 in cash from the suspects.

To ensure public safety, 667 police patrol teams were deployed across Dhaka’s 50 police stations, operating in two shifts. Of these, 340 teams patrolled at night, while 327 teams were active during the day. Additionally, 71 police checkpoints were established at key locations to strengthen security measures.

In a coordinated effort, 14 teams from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, 12 teams from the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU), and 10 teams from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) assisted the DMP in crime-prone areas.

The Armed Police Battalion (APBN) also contributed by setting up 20 additional checkpoints.

The DMP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of Dhaka’s residents.
