The COAST Foundation has extended financial assistance to 27 families affected by devastating fires in East Bheola of Chakaria upazila. Each affected family received Tk 5,000 on Wednesday as part of the foundation’s relief efforts.
The fires, which broke out on Monday (March 10) morning and afternoon, gutted some houses in Badarkhali Union and Purba Boro Bheola Union.
In a press release, the foundation stated that the fires were caused by electrical short circuits, a recurring issue in the Cox's Bazar district. Local residents have repeatedly complained about the lack of adequate response from local electrical authorities regarding the safety of power lines.
“Most houses have electrical lines installed by untrained local electricians, leading to unsafe setups,” the press release highlighted. "Although electricity expansion is ongoing, the authorities have shown little concern for safety measures. Such incidents are becoming increasingly frequent in the region."
