One arrested over alleged gang rape of pregnant woman in Narsingdi

A case was filed against five individuals on Sunday over the alleged rape of a seven-month-pregnant woman in the Pachdona union of Narsingdi’s Madhabdi upazila. Police arrested one of the accused, Iqbal Hossain (43), son of Joynal Mia from Asmandirchar, while the other named suspect, Pappu Mia (29), son of Abdul Motaleb, remains at large.

The 23-year-old victim lodged a complaint with Madhabdi Police Station on Saturday, according to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nazrul Islam.

Police reports state that the woman had been living in a rented house in Bhagirathpur while her husband was imprisoned in a case linked to the July movement. Following his release, she informed him about the assault and filed the case.

Md Anwar Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), stated that the victim approached Madhabdi Police Station on Friday night. She claimed that Iqbal had posed as a lawyer, deceiving her with promises of securing her husband’s release.

Police have visited the crime scene based on the victim’s account. OC Md Nazrul Islam confirmed that a drive is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
