Govt renames 24 armed forces institutions, removing names of Sheikh Mujib, Hasina, and family

The government has renamed 24 institutions, organisations and structures within the armed forces by removing the names of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and their family members.

Among the renamed entities, 19 belong to the Bangladesh Navy, three to the Bangladesh Air Force, one to the Bangladesh Army, and one to the Ministry of Defence.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Defense on Sunday (9 March), eight key institutions have undergone name changes: BNS Bangabandhu is now BNS Khalid Bin Walid, BNS Sheikh Mujib is BNS Dhaka, BNS Sheikh Hasina is BNS Pekua, Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre is Bangladesh Aeronautical Centre, BAFA Bangabandhu Complex is BAFA Complex, and Sheikh Hasina Complex is DSCSC Complex.

Additionally, a separate notification highlighted that 16 other institutions under the Bangladesh Navy were renamed.
