The government has decided to strengthen security measures across the country by increasing checkposts in key locations, enhancing patrols in crime-prone areas, and conducting joint operations through a coordinated force comprising the Bangladesh Army, police, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
These decisions were made at a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order held on Monday, chaired by Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
As part of the initiative, additional checkposts will be installed in important areas, and patrols in high-crime zones will be intensified. A joint force of the Bangladesh Army, police, and BGB will conduct operations in targeted locations to maintain law and order. The Bangladesh Navy will deploy additional patrol teams on key roads in the capital, while the Coast Guard will operate in select areas to enhance security.
Chiefs of various police units, deputy police commissioners, brigade chiefs of the Bangladesh Army, and other officials will provide regular updates to the media on incidents. To ensure swift action, motorbikes will be purchased for members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), BGB, Ansar, and the Coast Guard to enable immediate patrols in alleys and narrow streets.
Operations will also target locations where criminals, including muggers and robbers, are suspected to be hiding. Law enforcement agencies will increase patrolling in areas outside Dhaka, such as Tongi, Basila, Keraniganj, and Munshiganj. Additionally, 500 members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) will be assigned to assist the DMP in maintaining security.
The government has instructed deputy commissioners (DCs) to enforce the law rigorously during the election period. Furthermore, measures will be implemented to counter rumors and propaganda to prevent the spread of misinformation.
The meeting was attended by LGRD Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Khoda Box Chowdhury, and senior officials from various law enforcement agencies. These steps aim to address growing security concerns and ensure public safety across the country.
