The interim government has withdrawn the Bangladesh Police Medals (BPM) and President’s Police Medals (PPM) awarded to 103 police officers, including former inspector general of police, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, for their direct involvement in the controversial 2018 general election.

A notification from the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Police-2 branch made the announcement on Monday (24 February).

The statement specified that the BPM, BPM-Service, PPM, and PPM-Service medals, conferred in 2018 upon these officers, were being officially revoked under directive.

These honours had been awarded following the 30 December 2018 election, which was widely criticised for alleged irregularities.
