The Home Adviser, Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has stated that there is no longer any tension along the India-Bangladesh border. The situation is now relatively stable, and no additional barbed-wire fences are being constructed.
He made these remarks on Tuesday (14 January) while responding to questions from journalists following a discussion with law enforcement and agricultural department officials at an event in Mymensingh.
Jahangir Alam stated that a meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) will be held next month to restore peace. Issues surrounding certain unequal agreements will be discussed during the meeting. Prior to this, letters will be sent from the ministry addressing how to resolve these disparities.
Addressing concerns about fertiliser, the Home Adviser assured that there is no shortage. He warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to create an artificial crisis. Dealers found involved in such activities will lose their dealership from next month. Farmers, being the lifeblood of the nation, will be ensured access to fertiliser at fair prices.
The adviser also mentioned that the police force is gradually overcoming challenges and accelerating their operations.
