Tracy Ann Jacobson has arrived in Dhaka to take on the role of acting US ambassador to Bangladesh.

Jacobson assumed her duties at the US Embassy in Dhaka as the interim Charge d'Affaires on Saturday (11 January).

The appointment follows the nomination of David S. Luten Mil by President Joe Biden as the US Ambassador to Bangladesh.

Luten Mil, who previously served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Beijing, has yet to undergo a Senate hearing, a prerequisite under US regulations.

Consequently, his arrival in Dhaka has been delayed, necessitating Jacobson’s interim appointment.

Welcoming her, the US Embassy in Dhaka expressed enthusiasm, stating, "We are delighted to welcome Tracy Ann Jacobson as our new interim Charge d'Affaires in Bangladesh. With extensive diplomatic experience, having served as the US Ambassador to Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kosovo, Ambassador Jacobson is committed to fostering strong international relations. She looks forward to leading the Dhaka mission with dedication and vision."

According to a press release from the US Embassy last Thursday, Jacobson most recently served as a senior adviser in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the US Department of State. Prior to this, she was the interim charge d'affaires at the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and also served as deputy ambassador in Riga, Latvia.

Jacobson's previous roles include dean of the School of Professional and Area Studies and deputy director at the National Foreign Affairs Training Centre, further highlighting her extensive expertise in diplomatic affairs.
