The government has cancelled the passports of 75 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for their alleged involvement in the killings during the July and August uprisings.
The announcement was made by Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mazumder during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday.
Mazumder also highlighted a new initiative for Bangladeshi immigrants, stating that they would receive SMS notifications once their e-passports are completed. "This initiative will be helpful for migrants to relieve their sufferings," he added.
The government is working to eliminate brokers or intermediaries from the passport issuance process. "From now on, the rule will be implemented to issue passports only through appointed agents," Mazumder said, emphasising the effort to make passport offices more efficient and transparent.
