A dense fog enveloping the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway led to a collision involving a passenger bus and several other vehicles, resulting in the death of one person and at least 15 people being injured.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday (22 December), when ten vehicles, including a passenger bus, collided on the expressway due to reduced visibility caused by the heavy fog.
Hasara Highway Police Station OC Abdul Quader Jilani said a Mawa-bound bus of Sakura Paribahan hit a covered van in front of it at the Singpara underpass around 7am on Sunday morning.
At the same time, a microbus behind it and three other passenger vehicles of ENA, SEBA and Golden Line Paribahan collided.
The injured have been sent to their destinations after receiving first aid.
The microbus driver was admitted to Srinagar Hospital with serious injuries and died at 10:30am.
The vehicles involved in the accident had to be removed from the highway.
During this time, a huge traffic jam was created in the Srinagar area of the expressway for about 40 minutes.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene to assist the injured and clear the vehicles involved in the pile-up.
Traffic flow on the expressway was temporarily disrupted as authorities worked to restore normalcy.
