Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury, the head of the Commission on Inquiry into cases of enforced disappearances, has dismissed reports claiming that 22 members of Bangladesh’s security forces were dismissed based on the commission’s recommendations.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Justice Chowdhury criticised the dissemination of false information by several television channels. “The news that 22 members of the country's security forces were sacked on the basis of our recommendation is a lie. It is bogus news,” he stated.

He further clarified that the commission had not made any recommendations regarding the dismissal of security personnel, urging media outlets to verify information before broadcasting.
