Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL) has significantly reduced its electricity supply to Bangladesh, providing only 530 megawatts daily instead of the over 1,000 megawatts supplied until 30 October, due to unpaid bills.
The drop was recorded on Thursday (31 October), as per data from Power Grid Bangladesh PLC.
APJL had initially warned Bangladesh with a letter demanding payment by 30 October and indicated that the power supply would be suspended if payments were not made.
On 27 October, the company issued another warning letter to the Power Development Board (PDB).
According to PDB officials, the outstanding bills have grown due to increased charges from APJL since July.
While the PDB previously paid $17-18 million per week, the current charge exceeds $22 million per week, contributing to the unpaid amount.
Last week's bill was deposited with the Agricultural Bank; however, payment to Adani was not possible due to dollar shortages, a PDB official reported.
Since the caretaker government assumed office, it has pressured APJL to settle outstanding payments.
Adani Group head Gautam Adani had also sent a letter to Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus on the matter.
