The court has approved a 41-day remand for eight high-profile individuals, including five former ministers from the Awami League government, following hearings in two separate cases in Dhaka

A Dhaka court has sanctioned a 41-day remand for eight individuals, including five former ministers of the Awami League government. 

The remand order was issued on Wednesday (30 October), following separate hearings before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Md Sharifur Rahman and Md Imran Ahmed.

Among the individuals remanded are former ministers Anisul Huq, Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Shajahan Khan, Hasanul Haq Inu, and former Inspector General of Police, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.

Also remanded are expelled military officer Ziaul Ahsan, former Member of Parliament Haji Mohammad Selim, and Dhaka University Chhatra League General Secretary Tanvir Hasan Soikat, representing a now-proscribed student organisation.

According to court sources, the accused were presented before the court directly from prison.

Following the hearings, former law minister Anisul Huq received an eight-day remand in two separate cases in the capital.

He was granted five days' remand in the High Court’s fraudulent voting case filed at Shahbagh Police Station and an additional three days in a murder case under Badda Police Station.

Former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun received a seven-day remand in total, with three days granted under a Dhanmondi Police Station case and four days under a separate case in Bangshal Police Station.

Former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder was remanded for three days under a Mohammadpur Police Station case, while former shipping minister Shajahan Khan was given four days' remand in a Jatrabari Police Station case.

Additionally, the court sanctioned five-day remands each for Ziaul Ahsan in a New Market Police Station case, Haji Selim in a Chawkbazar Police Station case, Hasanul Haq Inu in a murder case at Dhanmondi Police Station, and Tanvir Hasan Soikat in a separate Chawkbazar Police Station case.
