Coastal small fisher's community and local civil society demanded allocation and effective measures on an urgent basis for sustainable socio-economic development of climate-vulnerable coastal fishers.
They said that they had not seen any effective measures to improve the quality of livelihood of the people who are affected and disadvantaged in the government's development plan.
They face trouble to fish because of the frequent catastrophes; practically everyone is at risk when fishing in the sea because of a lack of practical and sufficient information, skills, and equipment related to disasters.
Every fishing family is struggling to make ends meet in the current situation, and they are all heavily indebted.
All these issues were highlighted by the speakers at the seminar titled "Climate Vulnerable Coastal Fishermen; Access & Challenges in Government Social Safety Net Services", held on Tuesday (29 October) at Tazumuddin in Bhola.
COAST Foundation Climate Change & Resilience Project organised the programme.
Tazumuddin Upazilla Fisheries Officer Amir Hossain chaired the programme while Upazilla Nirbahi Officer was present as the chief guest.
Tazumuddin Marine Fisheries Officer Alamin, representatives of small fishermen community, trawler owners organisation, small fishermen organisation, journalists and others stakeholders were present in the seminar.
